Climbing in Peru
I spent close on 4 weeks on a climbing trip to Peru in 2000.
We flew into Cusco - the old Inca capital and initially hiked the Inca trail to
Maccu Picchu as a way of acclimatizing and getting some fitness.
After a few days back in Cusco we set off to a mountain range to the
SE called the Cordillera Vilcanota. We hired horses, a guide and a
cook and headed off for a couple of weeks.
Beautiful area and culturally very interesting with great climbing potential -
we summited one peak Campa (5500m), tried
one new route
on a beautiful and more difficult mountain called
Marisposa (6000m) backing off due to rockfall
just a couple of rope lengths from the end of the technical difficulties
and got very high on the biggest mountain in the area - Ausangate (6400 m).
