Use of VPN client for off campus

For most off campus access, the Syracuse University VPN client is becoming a requirement, which will encrypt your session and give you a local connection.

Note: If you have the Nortel Contivity VPN client installed, you will need to uninstall that FIRST!

Please consult ITS website at: https://its.syr.edu/downloads/

or internally on campus:

For MacOS:
I recommend a manual setup, pretty easy, just a couple of steps longer.

Apple menu> System Prefs
Click Network
Click the padlock to Unlock
Click on the plus to add
Select VPN (L2TP)
I name it "SU VPN (L2TP)"
Click Create
Server = vpn.syr.edu
Account = user's NetID
Click Authentication settings
Password = NetID password
Shared secret = ThisIsPSK
Click Okay
Click Apply

Network shares:
To connect to Physics Network shares (drives & printers) use the full path of physics.syr.edu (ex: \\physics.syr.edu\username )
To connect to SU Network shares (drives & printers) use \\as-fsrv.ad.syr.edu\yournetid$ (ex: \\as-fsrv.ad.syr.edu\joeuser$ ) and remember to login using your full netid@syr.edu (ex: joeuser@syr.edu) and your netid password.
