HP Laserjet 5si Troubleshooting:

Printer says “Ready” but job isn’t printing:

Verify that the job was queued.  Did it make it onto the server queue?

See http://www.physics.syr.edu/help/ for printer queue status

“Warming Up” or “Processing” for more than 5 minutes:

Turn the printer off, then back on.  Jobs should be resent.

40.X HP MIO Error:

Communication Error from client, press Select to continue with next job.

Other Error Codes

Write down the error and notify System Administrator.

Then power-cycle to see if that clears the error.

Something huge/wrong is printing and it should be stopped!

Press the ONLINE button (it will start blinking…)

WAIT!… it may print several pages before it will stop, this prevents paper jams.

Then power off, check the print queue at http://www.physics.syr.edu/help/

If job still remains in the queue, leave printer off, and find the System Administrator.

If problem still cannot be resolved, contact Dan

Common paper path jam locations

The printer monitors the timing of four sensors to determine that a paper jam has occurred: PS2, PS1, PS1403, and PS1402. If a paper jam occurs, the printer displays a 13.x PAPER JAM message on the control panel.

Most paper jams occur in the following locations (see Figure 1):

Figure 1: Paper path jam locations

Clearing paper jams

NOTE: Open and close all printer covers to clear the paper jam message. After removing a sheet of paper, check other areas to ensure that all paper has been removed.

When a sheet of jammed paper becomes badly shredded, it is a good idea to carefully piece all parts together to ensure that no small parts are overlooked. All portions of a jammed piece of paper must be removed or repeated jams might occur.

If the jam persists, try the following:

Clearing repeated paper jams

NOTE: The HP LaserJet 5Si HM supports 20- to 53-pound bond paper from Trays 2, 3, and 4. The HP LaserJet 5Si HM also supports index paper (up to 110 pound media) from Trays 2, 3, and 4. When using 16 pound media, the fusing mode can only be STD PAPER. Otherwise, overheating of media will cause performance issues such as paper jams.
