Accessing files off campus

To gain a "local" secure connection on campus, use the university VPN client to gain a local IP address.

This will also allow direct connections to network shares (samba drives) from home and abroad.

We recommend use of the Syracuse University VPN client, which will encrypt your session and give you an on-campus IP address.
For most off campus access, the Syracuse University VPN client is becoming a requirement, which will encrypt your session and give you a local connection.

Note: If you have the Nortel Contivity VPN client installed, you will need to uninstall that FIRST!

Please consult ITS website at: https://its.syr.edu/downloads/

or internally on campus:

Physics: To connect to Physics Network shares (drives & printers) use the full path of physics.syr.edu (ex: \\physics.syr.edu\username )

SU Active Directory: To connect to your SU active directory home directory, map a network drive to \\as-fsrv.ad.syr.edu\netid$ (ex: \\as-fsrv.ad.syr.edu\joeuser$ ) and login with your netid@syr.edu and password (ex: joeuser@syr.edu )

To connect to shared space, map a network drive to \\as-fsrv.ad.syr.edu\as-shared and login with your netid@syr.edu and password (ex: joeuser@syr.edu )
