Abstract
In this talk I will discuss some nonsingular
black hole and cosmological solutions found within
the context of specific modified gravitational theories.
I will begin with an introduction to the Limiting
Curvature Hypothesis (LCH) and describe how it may be used
to construct a nonsingular Schwarzschild black hole
with de Sitter interior in (1+1)-dimensions. We
then consider the possibility that by including leading
order stringy (alpha') corrections in the low-energy
effective action for heterotic string theory, it
is possible to avoid the initial cosmological
singularity. A nonsingular solution that exits
from an early time de Sitter phase to a late time
FRW universe with constant dilaton will be given.
