PoP - Syracuse University Physics Computational Cluster

Configuration

There are 14 machines, each with 2 Pentium II processors (233MHz on pop01, 300MHz on pop02--14, and 350MHz on pop15--16). Each machine has a separate network identity, just like any ordinary Linux box (see IP names and addresses).

pop01 is the primary node and is configured slightly differently from the other nodes. All nodes use suhep as the network information server (NIS, YP) to get password, shell and home directory information.

Each node, including the primary node (pop01), has a local 2.5GB EIDE disk. These are partitioned as follows:

122MB (swap) - swap space for that node
1000MB / - local copy of unix and other programs
1319MB /tmp - local workspace
In addition, all nodes NFS mount user home directories on an additional disk on the primary node:
8400MB /home1 - user home directories
There are also links to /home1 from /home2 and /home3 so that suhep home directories work.

Simon Catterall (smc) purchased additional disks which are mounted on pop08 and pop09 and also nfs mounted by all other machines. Also, the extra machines purchased by smc (pop15 and pop16) have additional 5.5GB data partitions:

13600MB /disk08a - for smc and co-workers
 8400MB /disk09a - for smc and co-workers
 5500MB /disk15a - for smc and co-workers
 5500MB /disk16a - for smc and co-workers
