Our lab welcomes students of different background levels from very good and seriously science-oriented high school and undergraduate students to postgraduate students. Fields of interest and skill covers from biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, engineering, and computer science to mathematics. Both experimental and theoretical projects are available to fit with individual skills and talents.
Example of projects:
-
Selection and characterization of Chlamydomonas mutants.

-
Pharmacological, physiological studies of signaling intermediates for phototaxis.

-
Measurement of electric field across the cell membrane (membrane potential) and electrical current in a Chlamydomonas cell population

-
Dynamic recording of the 2D and 3D ciliary motion of a Chlamydomonas cell held by a micropipette.

-
Monitoring of fluorescent dyes that measure the calcium ion concentration in the cilia.
-
Characterization of swimming pattern of different ciliary and motility mutants.
-
Calculation of forces along a cilium using hydrodynamics.

-
Modeling of intracellular signaling network looking for attractors and feedback loops.
