Rafael Dolnick Sorkin grew up in Chicago and was educated at:

New Trier Township High School (valedictorian, 1963)(National Merit Scholar)

Harvard University (A.B., summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1966)

California Institute of Technology (Ph.D., 1974).

Currently he is Professor emeritus of Physics at Syracuse University and Researcher at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

His research is directed broadly to the problem of reconciling
general relativity with quantum mechanics, and his current efforts
in that direction center on causal set theory, which replaces continuous
spacetime by a collection of discrete "atoms" structured as a

He is married to Fatma Husein.
