Physics 785: General Relativity

Fall 2007

Prof. Mark Trodden

This course is an introduction to Einstein's General Theory of Relativity - our best theory of gravity, and one of the best tested scientific theories of all time.

We will study the mathematical background to General Relativity, the physical principles that lead us to construct it, its theoretical structure, and its predictions and successes. These include the bending of light, the precise orbits of planets, gravitational lensing and gravitational radiation. We will also briefly discuss the broad application of general relativity in cosmology.
