permissions.
Introduction to the simplest examples
of chaotic systems - bacteria in a jar - the logistic map.
- Week 4 -- Week 7
- Period doubling as a route to chaos. Fixed points of a chaotic
map - strange attractors and fractals. Java
classes and simple Java graphics.
- Week 8
- Midterm exam
- Week 9 -- Week 12
- 2D Maps, examples from globular clusters. Julia sets and the
Mandelbrot set. Multifractals. Examples in Nature. DLA
growth. Chaos in the
Solar System. More Java experience - designing a GUI for running
simulations. Billiard balls.
- Week 13 -- Week 14
- Earthquakes and anything else we have time for ...
