The Department of Physics in Syracuse University’s College of Arts
and Sciences is delighted to announce the return of the The Tuesday Night
Lecture Series. This series builds on the Saturday Morning Physics
Lecture Series that was partially supported by a grant from the Internships
in Public Science Education program of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences
Directorate of the National Science Foundation. The lectures are free and
designed for all those people who have ever wondered how the world around them
works.
The Syracuse University Physics Department includes many internationally known
scientists who are involved in research in some of the most fascinating topics
in physics today. The purpose of this new program is to share the content and
excitement of "doing physics" with the wider Syracuse community
through lectures about cutting-edge research done by Physics Department's
faculty and through tutorial presentations highlighting important physical
phenomena that have been in the news.
The lectures often include demonstrations of physical phenomena designed to
help visualize and understand the concepts that are being discussed. A question
and answer period follows each lecture.
This lecture series is organized by
Professor Gianfranco Vidali (it
links to his home page).
