The graduate program at Syracuse University is designed to provide a stimulating environment for students to work closely with distinguished faculty members on leading-edge research projects. Graduate student progress is carefully monitored. We realize that many students will go on to careers outside of academics and every effort is made to educate students about the widehttp://physics.syr.edu/graduate/membrTN.gifvariety of career paths available to physicists with advanced degrees. Our graduate alumni work all over the world in academic and industrial positions of all kinds.

Our department has a diverse international flavor, featuring high-caliber faculty, students and postdocs from all corners of the world and across the US. Every continent (except Antarctica) and subcontinent is represented. E-mail Diane Sanderson
if you would like to be put in contact with someone from your corner of the world (or your part of the United States) to learn more about Syracuse in your own language.

Nearly all students admitted to the graduate program in physics receive financial support either in the form of a teaching assistantship (TA) or a university fellowship. Every applicant will be considered for a TA. Since this involves contact time with undergraduates, verbal skills are very important and all foreign students are required to take the TOEFL and will be interviewed by telephone. Outstanding applicants will be recommended for university fellowships by the department.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:      We would like to have all applications by January 1st of any given year for that fall term admission. Although we will accept applications until all available slots are filled, those received early will get the greatest consideration.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR APPLICATION (or the application process): Please contact Ms. Diane Sanderson (dbsander@syr.edu) or the graduate program email at graduate@phy.syr.edu.
